Loving my Pine Sol

I am sitting here in the office, looking out at gray skies, rain, and keeping my eye on a black and white classic movie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.  It is a nice simple day.  No busyness.

I read a lot of quotes on Facebook, in books, and on the internet about valuing and cherishing time, about spending time wisely, spending time with God, spending time in nature, etc.  Sometimes I find myself hurrying through life chores and errands to get to this space of "cherishing moments".  I have to ask myself now though, "Why not slow down and enjoy the daily tasks?"

I don't  have to sit and bask to enjoy life.  I love wiping down my counters with Pine-sol.  I love a cleared, clean, and smooth counter.  If the counter is clean, I can enjoy my kitchen. There is nothing wrong with that.  I enjoy the smell, the texture, and the pleasant visual of a orderly counter.  Silly? maybe.

I was talking with a girlfriend yesterday.  She loves to do laundry.  I used to laugh at her at work because she would be planning her evening and say, "I think I can make a load of laundry tonight."  She would gather up miscellaneous items and wash, dry and fold them each evening.  To my friend, this was pleasant and gratifying.  She loves the smell of fresh laundry. She likes to neatly fold and pack her laundry.  She enjoys the moments of the everyday tasks, and yet  to some it's mundane.

I chose today to enjoy my bill paying and checkbook balancing.  I will find gratification in a planned budget and the knowledge of what money we actually have.  I will use my favorite fine point pen.  I will neatly write my bills out and praise God for being able to pay them as I seal the envelope.   I will do my laundry and neatly fold and present my family their laundry.  I will inhale the freshness.  Today I will do my household chores and listen to music, smell the cleanliness, and take in the view of accomplishment.

Cherishing and valuing moments doesn't have to always include a good movie, a good book or good times with family and friends.  It doesn't always mean relaxing and slowing down.  It can mean just simply using the senses to bring you in the moment that the Lord Jesus has placed you in.

It's time to put my words into practice....Kevin just walked in with breakfast and a bottle of Pine Sol he just bought!  No joke!

I love the smell of Pinesol, too! It takes me back to a happy place in my mind. My mom and grandma both cleaned with it and it just smells like a simpler time to me.
