Keeping the Apron Strings Attached

This morning was absolutely precious and a quiet confirmation that providing a somewhat routine, warm, comfortable home is appreciated, if only through the eyes of a 5 year girl. I hope to post a pic of her someday. She spent the day yesterday and I will tell you all about it, but first I want to tell you about this morning.

I woke up and decided to make homemade muffins with real blueberries. Jayden wanted to help. I used to "poo poo" offers to help because my patience is always tried...you know I am a clean freak and like order. Now I realize that so many little girls these day don't get much if any home making training. I have a new found patience and we have so much fun playing house and doing "real" house things. We were making the muffins and Jayden said "Nana, where's your thing that you wear to keep your clothes clean?" At first I didn't know what she was thinking of, then it hit me. She wanted me to put on an apron. I have been wearing one more. I like how I feel when I wear an apron. It reminds me of my grandmother and even my mom wears one. Jayden appreciated my apron and what it represented. Nana is cooking and a lady wears an apron when she seriously is cooking. It's silly I know to some of you, but I loved it! I am determined to find her an apron she can wear with me.

Yesterday I kept Jayden for the day. I pulled out my play kitchen, dishes, doll table and chairs. I pulled out a baby cradle and stroller. I gave her noodles to cook. We made a house in my TV room. She had a blast playing while I cleaned my house. Later while I was fixing lunch, I put on Cinderella. It's such a "little chick" flick. We had a dainty lunch together. Jayden also spent some time in Kev's office at my desk. She colored and cut pictures, while she played "office". We took literally a 3 hour nap yesterday afternoon...a woman needs her beauty sleep. We woke up and made supper. After that she was with her brother playing and doing kid stuff.

Ladies, I had so much fun modeling and teaching Jayden how to take care of the home. At one point she was vacuuming cat hair off my sofas. I told her it is important to be clean and also make other feel comfortable in your home. It didn't take much time and yet I felt I made a little impact in her life. Especially as she was lying a dishcloth over her doll table to make it pretty! That's my girl!

Girlfriends, I fail at so many of my life endeavors and family life at times that I don't feel God will ever use me effectively. Yet, simple times like yesterday and this morning, I am reminded He can use the ordinary and everyday experiences to have an impact or make a difference in someone's life. I just must...come on you can guess this...OBEY!

I hope you have a great weekend. Make a decision to enjoy or celebrate your home. We set the tone and the environment...and we clean, launder, etc. WAH! It is oh so worth it though to bring a smile to a loved one when they see their home as a "castle" a place to feel honored and special. Of course, in most castles there is a QUEEN..that would be you, my dear. Love you all, acf

This is freaky, Girlfriend. I just told Johnny I was gonna get me an apron. I like 'em.

Jordan's a blessed little girl, but I think you got it pretty good, too, having her to share with. Ain't God good??
