When I got married over 22 years ago, we had the music not the words from a song from the Beatles play as we walked down the aisle after saying our vows and the kiss that lasted so long I had to tap Kev's shoulder to stop, Lol! The song was "Something". I have linked it here for you to hear it should you wish to hear it.

My point is to share that somehow the decisions we make and how we live and what we say and do can have impact on someone you may never know was affected. My uncle and aunt apparently were going thru some marital strife during this time of my wedding. Both had attended, their son was one of our ushers. We had chosen the song because it reflected a lot of Kevin’s emotion regarding me. We were two total opposites getting married and we were surprising head over heels in love with each other in spite of our different personalities. Apparently, there was “Something” about me that stole his heart.

Now, getting back to my uncle and aunt, my uncle shared with me that night that this song we played at our wedding touched his heart. He just knew we had chosen it for him and my aunt. They were huge Beatle fans and quite the young “hippie” couple back in the day. They are still together today. I know a lot of prayer passed thru the lips of many for this marriage and God prevailed, but just maybe our choice of song reignited a slow burning flame in their marriage.

Today devotion in our church's Loving the Living Word booklet was entitled "Worthy Talk", authored by our preacher.

I want to just share some lines he wrote below:
  • “He talks the talk, but does he walk the walk? We’ve all heard some version of that question before.
  • We were talking about living our faith instead of just talking about it, and he said, “Don’t sing it; bring it.”
  • God wants us to tell others about Jesus, but He also wants us to show them that what we say is real.
  • A nineteenth century atheistic philosopher said, “I will believe in the redeemer of these Christians once they show me they have been redeemed.”
  • So what should you and I do in response to that statement? “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:16 (NKJ).

Friends, I love to sing and I love music. I especially love praise and worship songs. It’s time for me to truly reflect on the words of the songs, and bring God glory by shining His light and representing Him well.

By the way, the “Something” song, it made an impact on my family but a bigger impact on us. We celebrated it and it proved true…the attraction never left and our love grew.

It’s all about choices, my friends. Go shine your light! “Bring It” on!
