In Spanish "Que Linda!" means how pretty...how beautiful. Ladies, a member of our church named Linda last night suffered a heart attack. She survived. She is in the hospital having a heart cath. put in as I post. Please pray for this precious woman. She is very loved by her family. She is very loved by our church. She has given so much and we need time to honor and give back.
Our preacher has just wrapped up a series of sermon based on the Sermons on the Mount, Matthew chapters 5-7. He spent some time on the Beattitudes. Ladies, I know no one is perfect and can't maintain all the characteristics of these chapters, but when I think of a humble, blessed, and woman of purity-a pure heart, I think of Linda. I think of the Beattitudes. She survives on grace like Christians do, but her demeanor stands true to the Word. She is soft, gentle, and humble, yet she is mighty in her stance for God and to His Word. Again, Ladies, please pray for Linda.
Matthew 5:8 (NASB)
8"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
The Pure
( I found this on a web page but didn’t get references-sorry)
The Greek word for “pure” is katharos (used 27 times in the New Testament). Fundamentally, it signifies that which is clean, or free from contaminating substance. (cf. Danker et al., Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, 489).
The term is used literally, for instance, of the “clean” cloth in which Jesus’ body was wrapped after his death (Mt. 27:59). In the gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, the word is employed in a ceremonial sense of the purification from leprosy. It also can apply to the release of certain unfortunate individuals from “unclean spirits,” i.e., demons, the persons then, by implication, become “clean.”
On the other hand, the katharos may be engaged in a higher sense. William Barclay contended that with a spiritual import, “pure” may describe the heart that is free of unadulterated “motives” (Commentary on Matthew, I.101). It perhaps represents that ideal state of mind of the person who longs to serve God and others for the sheer unselfish joy of honoring the Creator, and thus free of base motives. What a lofty disposition that would be.
Girlfriends, I want this state of mind. I think I have it sometimes and then “boom” my motives show out. I want to honor the Creator with a pure heart. I want my God to say “Que Linda, Anna.” How pretty you are. How about you?
Ladies, we will see God in everything when our hearts our pure. We will no longer just see “things, people, or places”. We will see Him and will want to serve and honor Him. We will have joy. We will have hope for the day that when we will meet God face to face.
Thank you for your prayers for Linda.
