On a Diet? Eat Bread!

Ladies, my quest for the New Year is to lose weight of course, exercise, be organized, and grow wildly in my Spiritual Life. Today is January 5 and guess what? The quest is buried under dirty dishes, the clothes on the treadmill, the icing on last nights cake, and spiritually....Victory! Thank God for "GRACE". I actually am doing well on the quest but you just can't tell this morning. I wanted to wake up early and stay on my mental schedule. However, I woke up at 7:40 and here I sit. I love blogging and reading posts on the blog I follow. This morning with everything I have to do, I wanted to do what brings me joy....blogging and sitting next to my hubby while he earns the bread. Oh! Back to my true post...On a Diet? Eat Bread!

A girlfriend of mine gave me a Guideposts devotional book for Christmas. I love the short sweet spirit lifters it provides. I want to share one with you. But first a little background. I have been focused on nutrition, health, exercise and weight loss in my planning for the new year. I can't read enough. (Reminder today's fitness tip on my blog is a good one). I, however, still need to remind myself that as I want to feed my self good "stuff" I must not forget the reading and studying of God's Word.

I am the bread of life - John 6:48

The author of this devotional entry is Mary Lou Carney. She writes about the different types of homemade breads she ate growing up in her home. She tells how bread not only filled her belly but "it comforts and consoles and assures me that despite whatever particular drama may be consuming me, life is normal after all." She ends the devotional by stating that she appreciates Jesus' affirmation "I am the bread of life. Not the Oreo of life or the chopped steak of life or even the cream cheese of life, but the bread of life- the basic, daily, constant ingredient."

Ladies, it is the bread of life that we crave. It is what truly satisfies. So if you are dieting, and you think you are hungry or need something to eat. Drink a glass of water. Pick up His word and let Him fill ya. Still hungry? Well, maybe it's for real and choose your food wisely. You might also want to adopt the prayer Ms. Carney closed her devotion with.

"You, God, sustain and nourish my soul. Keep me from the "Junk Food" of foolish philosophies and wandering loyalties."

Time to go clean and eat! His bread and a muffin.
Love Ya Truly!

I enjoyed this post. I love all the inspiration you share here. I am on the same quest you are and it's nice to know I have a friend in you.I'm rooting for you. Pray I can remove all the junk from my treadmill :) and use it. It works!
Hugs & Prayers
