We are moving into a very simple home and have spent weeks weeding, sifting, and tossing our material goods. It is amazing how little stuff you truly need. I sold over $800 dollars of stuff...not much of it was furniture. How sad that we have so much in our homes that we can sell and still have more than we need. I am not living like "Little House on the Prairie" but I have condensed my cupboards and closets to mostly the basics. We purchased a small building for storage. I will store seasonal clothing, Christmas decor and Kevin's tools. It is so gratifying to see order and "smallness" if you will. Now I must say that I have a brand new sofa bought with yard sale funds. I have newly painted walls in contemporary colors at our new place. I still have some nice things but they are necessary and utilitarian. I still like pretty colors and nice decor, but these days I am simpler and feeling quite free. I think if I can keep things in order - organized then cleaning our new space will be a breeze.
The reason for the move was motivated by finances. Kevin still has not found a job since he lost his with IBM to India. Our severance and unemployment keep us going but we decided not to spend it on renting such a large home so a girlfriend's call to rent us a place was perfect timing. We are very excited about out move. We are looking forward to a tighter budget, and more time at our home. We lived far from town and we spent a lot of time on the road. We are closer to grocery stores, and my workplace. By the way, I did say looking forward to a "tighter" budget. It is awful how much of our money goes to eating out at restaurants, gas, and "stuff"!
My posts are infrequent but don't give up on me. Today, I just thought I would catch you up on my busyness. Please know I will have more to share so as we are settled...maybe even post some pics of our new home. I am doing a beach themed -serene master bedroom.
Oh, if any of you are trying to get ahold of me, use my email. I gave my phone a diet coke bath. It's a long story. Well, not too long... here it goes. I spent 10 hrs, yes, 10 hours looking for a bedding ensemble. This simple woman was looking for the most appropriate bed covers. My husband told me not to be afraid to try Kmart. Well literally 2 states and 10 stores later I found the perfect bedding set at KMART. It was 6 pm. Of course then I needed matching or similar bath stuff - shower curtain and all. So at 8:30pm I was starving but mostly thirsty. I was slowly eating a plain hamburger and savoring my diet coke. I had unknowingly punctured my drink cup in the same cup holder with my cell phone. So I continued in my dehydration all the way home to some cold lemonade. I went to bed grouchy...but first I had to call my Brooke and dump on her so I wouldn't make my men angry. Poor her!
Ok gotta go. Love you, mean it, Ciao!

Smaller and simpler is good. And knowing you, I am sure it's beautiful. Being home more is a good thing, too. It's nice to be able to enjoy home, even if it is smaller.
I agree with Sonia and I so look forward to "downsizing" in the sense of getting rid of "stuff"! I want to spend and hour cleaning and be done! :) How nice will that be???!!!! Love you!
