What's with the Shoes?
I was listening to the preacher at Biltmore Baptist, Asheville, on the radio after church on the way to lunch. He said something that caught my attention. Not that this is unusual but the word that caught my attention was "shoes". Before I tell you what he said, I want to tell you why it is so unusual.
I am not a shoe person. I have wide pudgy feet and as my sons and husband will remind me, "Mom time to do your 'crunchy' feet." I currently live in flip flops. I have several pairs in leather, with beads, and in different colors. Now I do love a pretty pair of heels, and sexy sandals, but they are few and far between for me right now. I just appreciate them on others. When I was a teenager, the higher and the skinnier the heel the better. I had to dress the disco part, you know! Lol.
So back to the preacher's words...he said briefly within his sermon, "God don't care what shoes you are wearing but He cares about where your shoes are taking you."
Some of us spend a lot of money on shoes, and spend a lot of time picking out which shoes will compliment the outfit we are wearing, or maybe which shoes will be the most comfortable or whatever. I think this is wonderful. We need to feel pretty, put together, or comfortable. It is perfectly feminine and it makes us happy to have a "good" pair of shoes on.
Now let's think of what the preacher was posing to us. Where are our feet taking us? No matter what our destination is, we have opportunity to share, encourage, or do His work. It's in the everyday places we can share our Jesus. I don't think I will go shopping, attend appointments, or even pick up my rebel son from school without remembering, "My feet brought me here so how does the Lord want me to share." I might have to start with a squeeze of my son's hand to assure him I am here for him. God and I won't abandon him.
In closing, a sweet young "bride to be" shared with some of us ladies at a bridal shower about her wedding party's attire. All the girls will wear "chuck taylors"...a pair of Converse sneakers. I think it is great. Their feet will be taking them to witness a union of love. Their feet will display the character of the bride. A statement will be made and it will be fun and enjoyable. Can we do no less? Take what is on your feet to do His will and make Him known.
