A Dog Gone Lesson

I am posting late Monday night. It is 10:35pm. I have had a horrendous day. Lots had to be done. Nothing real exciting. However, the night ended with a nice supper with a girl friend.

I want to share a true story...it was a life lesson for my son. It was precious. It was a "God Thing".

Last Friday morning Kevin and I had a talk with my son Tim about trust and responsibility. It wasn't going real well. Tim had shared some genuine concern regarding unfairness between siblings. We tried to convey that we love our boys equally and both of them are valuable to us. Kevin asked Tim to leave the room to give me and Kev some time to talk alone. Tim went outside.

After talking, Tim returned. We worked out a peaceful resolution and life will continue toward the positive in the Friend household. I still will be hovering around on the look out however. I didn't earn "Helicopter Mom" for nothing.

Later that day Tim plopped on the sofa next to me. I was getting ready to take down Christmas decor, etc. Tim shared a sweet story with me. Apparently Tim went and sat underneath a tree in our yard to settle down his angst. He said he saw two dogs chasing a car down the road in front of him. The dogs suddenly stopped chasing the car and approached Tim when they saw him. The dogs came up to Tim and prompted Tim to pet and play with them. Tim said one dog was smooth furred, strong and healthy. The other was small and scruffy, less than perfect. As he was playing with both dogs at the same time, they began to fight each other for attention. Tim said he verbally told them out loud "Don't fight. I am playing with both of you. I like both of you." It hit him at that moment, "That's how my parents love us - my brother and me." He laughed with me after telling me the story. He laughed and said "God don't ever give me a break. He just had to teach me something."

Ladies, we have so much we can learn in our everyday living. I learned a lot with Tim's story. The best thing I learned is God is still with Tim and He is not giving up on him....and neither am I.

Love ya! See ya in the morning!

Anna,

In spite of everything, that's a gem of a boy you got there. And God is dealing with him. You hang in and keep hovering. Nothing better than a helicopter mom for those hard-headed boys... and I know, cause I have two, too.
