Be forewarned this is not a blog on fitness. Not after my weigh in at the doctor's office yesterday. I am actually going to share some of my joy.
Yesterday was my day out. As a homemaker, who also is still in high gas price mode, I usually organize my trips into town to include multiple purposes. Town is a mere 12 miles away. I went to the library, doctor, out to lunch (of course), pharmacy, and to visit friends at a former work place. I left at 11:30am and came home at 4:00ish. My day out in my worn out body was exhausting. I had to cancel a leisure supper out with a friend, because I was to attend Jordan's (a special boy in our life) Musical Program at my sons former elementary school. Now, you know I wanted to crawl up on the sofa and relax. I couldn't think of any reason why I couldn't go.
Kevin and I were getting ready to leave and my son generously offers to let us drive his BMW. It needs gas! So I squeeze myself into his little BMW and off we go. When we arrive at the school, we enter the doors to the auditorium and relive times past. New doors, same beautiful stage curtains and same wooden seats but some how more narrow aisles between seats...honestly, Lol! We enjoy a great program. We saw rhythm; we saw squirming; we saw ants in the pants; and we saw Jordan seriously singing on the front row. I laughed, smiled, and teared up with nostalgia. As we were leaving we greeted the art and music teachers who put the program on. They are the same ones that taught our sons. Mrs. Rogers, art teacher, shares with us that my son's art report remains a legacy at Tryon Elementary. She continues to share the story my son told me one afternoon after school. Cory, a kindergartner, one afternoon said they did "real lipstick" painting in art. I was an art volunteer, so the next morning I asked Mrs. Roger's "Are you crazy? You let the kids paint with lipstick?" I was corrected after a little laugh that the students did "Realistic" paintings.
Ladies, we all have days of busyness and days of deep thought, etc. To lighten up try to remember the fun and silly experiences of times past. My stories might be boring to you but the memories to me are precious and I smile!! I lighten up!!!
Here are a few of my favorites from my kids:
One morning we were having breakfast as a family, complete with full table settings, and small bowls of various sugars and toppings for our hot cereal. Kevin was piling on the brown sugar on to his cereal. Tim, 2 years old, was studying his dad's set up. After Kevin finishes, Tim announces that he wants some "Sand" on his cereal. So cute was he and his chubby little cheeks and pudgy fingers.
When we lived in Oregon and I was a first time (went to work when my first born was 6 weeks old) mom at home with a 2 year old and a newborn, I would sometimes slap together a baloney sandwich for lunch. I would sit Cory down for lunch and tend to something else, then grab my sandwich later and eat by myself. My tentative son one day asked me if he could have a "Lonely" sandwich with me. It was hilarious. I remember fixing him a "Baloney" sandwich with me, and of course his was cut into cute little shapes to make it special.
You see Ladies when life gets tough or stressful pull out the memory bag and lighten up!
Have a great weekend! Please honor our Lord in all you do and attend church.
"How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all the day, and by Your righteousness they are exalted."
Psalms 89:15-16
